Credit Bureaus in South Africa – The Complete List

Banking

We’ve been discussing credit scores and how credit bureaus get to determine your risk score based on your credit history for future loan applications in South Africa.

Have you ever asked yourself, exactly who are these credit bureaus in the country?

So today I want to list all the top 4 credit bureaus and a lot more registered with the National Credit Regulator in South Africa. In fact, banks and many lenders in the country depend on their data analysis to make decision on loan offerings.

Let’s get started.

What is a Credit Bureau?

A credit bureau plays an important role in the credit industry in South Africa.

Their job is nothing else but to provide lenders with customer credit reports in the country. The report contains your credit history to assess your loan eligibility with a score, the higher the score, the better loan you’ll get.

They’re also obligated to give you, South Africans, free credit reports as required, with the aim to help you understand and better control your overall debt.

Lenders would then use the credit report data to decide on lending you unsecured personal loans.

How Do They Work?

The purpose of each credit bureau is not to make decisions on who to lend money but to collect customer information and analyse to assist lenders to make informed decisions.

Banks and other lenders will use this information to know your creditworthiness and the loan amount you could qualify for.

So the role of a credit bureau is vital in loan consideration-fairness and ensuring the correct loan applicant receives an affordable amount.
